CONCORD, N.C. (July 20, 2011) — Practical Software Solutions, a Sage Authorized Partner, announced today that Industries of the Blind, Greensboro (N.C.) won first place in the Community Stewardship category for the 2011 Sage Customer Awards Program.
The Sage Community Stewardship Award recognizes an organization that emphasizes the local, national, or global community in an effort to better the lives of the people the organization strives to serve.
We're honored that Sage recognized Industries of the Blind for their work in the greater Greensboro community, said Vince Stamey, Chief Executive Officer of Practical Software Solutions.
This recognition is a credit to how flexible Sage ERP MAS 500 and Sage Abra HRMS are, and how easily they can be integrated with other software for even greater synergy. We congratulate Industries of the Blind for winning this highly coveted award.
Organized in 1933, Industries of the Blind, Greensboro, was founded to create the first work program in North Carolina for blind people. Its six employees at the time made commercial-grade mops to sell in a leased storefront. In 1938, the organization was one of the first agencies to join the National Industries for the Blind.
Now with more than 100 employees, Industries of the Blind implemented Sage ERP MAS 500 and Sage Abra because of their ability to work in concert with other visual-aid software, such as JAWS (screen-reading software), Zoomtext (screen-magnifying software), and Vocollect (voice-based warehouse software). This allows IOB's visually impaired employees to operate its business software without assistance from other workers.
Sage ERP MAS 500 and Sage Abra also allowed IOB to streamline their operations, such as reducing inventory by more than $1 million in a year's time and increasing on-time deliveries by 5 percent. MAS 500 also integrates with Military Standard Requisitioning and Issue Procedures (MILSTRIP), allowing for streamlined communication with the Federal government.
This merging of technologies is allowing people who are blind to be a part of the process instead of an outside player who is being told what to make and when to make it, said Lanee Kirby, the information technology administrator for Industries of the Blind, Greensboro.
The two business solutions have combined to help IOB live up to one of its core values of being responsible and accountable:
We will take ownership for our actions and be fiscally accountable to ensure long-term viability.
Sage Customer Awards winners and their business partners were honored during a special tribute session at the Sage Summit conference in Washington, D.C., on July 13.
