Well, it looks like I owe Rhiannon Thompson lunch at Sage Summit 2016.
As you may remember, I mentioned in an earlier post that one of our customers took the time to try to figure out who would be the headline entertainment at Sage Summit this year by this clue posted on the event’s website:
“In the meantime, we can tell you this band has received countless accolades for their artistic achievement, including multiple Grammy nominations, American Music Award nominations, MTV Video Music Awards, NME Awards, and more. Also, they have appeared three times on Saturday Night Live, in addition to performances on The Tonight Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, and more.”
After much research, diagramming, oracle-consulting, and educated guessing, Rhiannon came up with her answer. And then she changed her mind. Yeah, I know that was kinda cheesy of her, but since she went through so much effort — and her first guess was sort-of a “I hope it’s this group,” instead of a definitive answer — I let it slide. So here was her final answer (note the date of the e-mail):
I responded to her by saying I would buy her lunch at Sage Summit if she was right. So today I was able to spring the news on her: During the Sage Summit 2016 Partner Kickoff Webinar, Sage announced that The Killers would be the headline entertainment act this year. And her reaction?
They also announced that Houndmouth would be their opening act during the Sage Celebration on Wednesday, July 27. (That got more of a happy “I’ve heard of them” response from Rhiannon. I told her she’s heard of them because they’re Hoosiers, like her.) For those of you sticking around Chicago the following weekend, Houndmouth will be playing Lollapalooza on Saturday, July 30.
So Rhiannon, when you read this, just let me know where you want to go for lunch, you band-guessing fool, you!
More ‘killer’ news for partners announced
Also during the webinar, the folks at Sage expanded a bit more on Partner Day at Sage Summit 2016, which will take place Monday, July 25. Probably the biggest reveal of the things I’m allowed to share publicly is the introduction of a Partner-Only area, which will be open Tuesday through Thursday at Sage Summit.
If you remember my post from a few weeks ago, I wrote about Sage trying to find the right balance between partners and customers during Sage Summit — somewhere in between having two separate conferences and having all partner and customer events happening simultaneously. This is a great step in the right direction of finding that balance.
Danielle Cote, the vice president of Event Marketing at Sage, just asked me what I thought about the changes for partners. I told her hands-down, the idea of a partner-only area was a great compromise for partners. Partners network with each other at Sage Summit as much as customers, and this gives the partners “backstage” area where business can be conducted among themselves. It’s also got a nice “Delta Sky Club” kind of vibe where partners have a place to unwind for a few minutes.
Again, I can’t say this enough: Sage is doing its best to make Sage Summit the way partners and customers want it to be. There were several times during the webinar when the hosts said, “we heard you …” followed by a new feature. It’s so important for everyone — partners and customers — to give feedback after they’ve attended Sage Summit, positive or negative. They just won’t know what we want from Sage Summit unless we open up and tell them.
