This morning, AmericanHort announced it canceled the 2018 Plug & Cutting Conference, which was scheduled to take place Sept. 17-19 in Charlotte, North Carolina. According to Shanan Atkinson, the trade show manager for AmericanHort, the threat of Hurricane Florence will likely cause not only travel issues, but also flooding is a major concern.
As of right now, they are looking at options to reschedule the event. According to Atkinson, the Plug & Cutting Conference is one of the most popular and impactful events of the year for AmericanHort. For more updates, visit the AmericanHort website.
According to the National Hurricane Center in its 11 a.m. update today, they are still unsure if Hurricane Florence will hit the North Carolina or the South Carolina coast. They’re also expecting the storm to hover over the Carolinas for days, dropping massive amounts of rain in the area.
For those who made reservations at the Sheraton Charlotte Hotel, please make sure you cancel your reservations right away. Not only is this important to avoid further penalties, but also you will help people who are evacuating from the coast to have another choice to go.
AmericanHort will work on sending out refunds to attendees, sponsors, and exhibitors over the next seven to 10 business days. Also some exhibitors have already shipped their materials to the show. Atkinson said they are confirming the return processes and will provide an update to those exhibitors soon.
We’re grateful for the team at AmericanHort for giving those of us in the Carolinas their best wishes. We may (or may not) get a direct hit from Hurricane Florence in the Charlotte area, but we will have to prepare the same nevertheless. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. We hope they will have the chance to reschedule the Plug & Cutting Conference.
